Watch “rocket scientist” Laurie Carrillo, P.E. , an award winning mechanical engineer at NASA Johnson Space Center, share how her love of math and star gazing have propelled her into a career in space exploration. She is currently working on the development of NASA latest spacecraft, the Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle. In addition to her awards from NASA, Laurie was head of the Houston Chapter of the Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES) and later earned the Chapter’s highest award. The Society of Women Engineers and the Zonta Club of Houston among many others have also recognized her.
