Empowerment Lesson Video: Storytelling 101
Tell students they will be watching the video titled ‘Storytelling 101’. Explain that the video presents role models talking about storytelling and the qualities of good stories.
After viewing the video, talk with students about the fact that good stories share many of the same qualities regardless of genre, medium, or topic. Ask students to talk about what some of those shared qualities might be.
- Have each student draw a horizontal line through the center of the paper, then two vertical lines, evenly spaced, to form six rectangles.
- Have each student think up a simple story idea (alternatively, the group leader can choose a story in advance that all the students are familiar with).
- The students will break down the steps of the action in the story into six ‘scenes’. For each scene, the students will draw a picture to illustrate the action and write a brief description underneath.
