Career Girls Courage
Author: Isobel Curran
If you had asked me a year or two ago, before I had discovered Career Girls, what I wanted to do after secondary/high school, I would have lied and said that I didn't know. The truth is that at that time I did know, but I simply didn't have the courage to tell people because I, myself, had so many doubts.
I didn't have the courage to tell people that I wanted to study Law. I was scared to tell them because I believed that it was mostly men who studied law, that it was a career for men, not women. To be honest, I did not know of many female lawyers and this was quite discouraging. I had no one to look up to, to aspire to. And so I had given up on that dream. Decided that it wasn’t for me. It makes me annoyed remembering how I had believed this, how easily I had given up.
That’s before I had discovered Career Girls who brought forward this inkling of an idea and made it a dream. One of which I can now strive to make a reality. Because I now know that I can do this too. Not only am I strong enough, but I am capable. I can do this, because why not? Why not go for it?
When I discovered Career Girls it was such a revelation. Now, right before me were hundreds of women excelling in their exciting careers in all fields imaginable, including Law! Now, I don’t encounter that discouraging voice at the back of my mind that frequently. And thank goodness for that!
For me, the women on this channel have taught me 3 important things: One, that women can do anything, two, never give up and three: we are strong, intelligent and we have the power to change the world by working in the fields that we are passionate about. Each and every girl needs to know this, to believe this in their hearts. We are the change makers. We are the future.
Next year I will be applying for Law in Dublin, Ireland. I am so excited for my career in Law to begin! Thank you so much Career Girls!!
