Empowerment Lesson Video: Importance of Integrity

Supplies:

  • Integrity Bingo sheet
  • Bingo cover chips
  • Number cutouts from one to twenty-eight

Video Discussion:

Ask, “What is integrity?”

Direct students to turn and talk with a partner.

Use student ideas to come to a class definition of integrity. For example, the quality of being honest and strong about what you believe to be right.

Ask, “What are some ways students behave with integrity at school?”

Call on students to share responses. Possible examples include: doing your own homework, not giving someone else answers on a test, respecting differences, etc.

Tell students they will be watching the video titled, “Importance of Integrity”. Explain that the video presents role models talking about the importance of having integrity.

Use some or all of the following questions to review the video content and prepare for the activity:

  • What words could you use to complete this sentence: “A person with integrity is someone who __“? Explain your answer.
  • Do you agree or disagree with the following statement from the video: “Having integrity is very important to be successful in life.” Explain your thinking.
  • Why is honestly so important to integrity—knowing and doing what is right?
  • Do you think that integrity will be important in your future career? Why or why not?

Activity Instructions:

Students will learn about the importance of integrity by playing a fun and interactive game of Integrity Bingo. This activity encourages them to reflect on honest and responsible behavior in everyday situations while recognizing the role integrity plays in building trust and strong relationships.

Today, you’ll be playing Integrity Bingo! Each square represents an action that shows integrity, like telling the truth or keeping a promise. As you mark off squares, think about times when you’ve demonstrated integrity and how these choices impact the people around you.

Instructor Notes: Once students have filled out their bingo boards, place the number cutouts in a box or bag. Pull out one at a time and call off the number. Once a student has called, “Bingo!” (five covered board spaces in a row horizontally, diagonally, or vertically), have them choose one of the integrity examples from their bingo sheet and provide an example of a time they acted with integrity.

  1. Gather the materials you will need to play Integrity Bingo including a bingo board, bingo cover chips, and a writing utensil.
  2. Use your writing utensil to fill in each box on your bingo card with your favorite integrity examples from the list. Be sure to include the number associated with each example! Each box should have a different example.
    • For example, you might write, “1. Being on time.” in the first box on your card.
  3. As your teacher calls out numbers, place a bingo cover over any number that you have listed on your card.
  4. To win, you must cover five squares in a line vertically, horizontally, or diagonally and call out, “BINGO!”
