Allow any students that want to share their experiences a few moments to do so.

Ask, “How might being creative or open-minded help guide you through life?”

Direct students to turn and talk to a partner. Then, call the class back together to share their ideas.

Activity Instructions:

The role models in the video told us that by exploring different opportunities and trying new things, you can find your strengths and passions.

In this activity, you will be creating a unique planter to symbolize your passions and interests. Then, you will plant a seed. You can watch your seed grow as a symbol of your own growth and your unique path through life.

In this activity, you will be creating a personal mind map showcasing your diversity. As you design your mind map, think about all the different influences that make you special and how they come together to shape your identity.

  1. Think about colors, designs, and symbols that represent your hobbies and other interests. These could be favorite colors, short quotes, or images that inspire you.
  2. Use acrylic paint and paintbrushes to decorate the outside of your terracotta pot or recycled container to represent your interests and hobbies. You can use stencils to help create shapes or patterns if you like.
  3. Once the paint is dry, add additional decorations using glitter, stickers, or any other craft items you love.
  4. After you are finished decorating your planter, place it on a plastic tarp or cardboard. Then, seal it with a sealant spray to protect your design from water and wear.
  5. Fill your planter with potting soil. Then, make a small hole with your finger. Place a few seeds inside and gently cover the hole with more soil. Give your seed a small amount of water to start the growth process.
  6. Place your planter somewhere you can see it often. Let it serve as a reminder of your passions, interests, and your unique path through life.
