Sylvia Fong is a scientist, biotechnology leader, educator, and mentor with more than two decades of experience advancing innovative medicines for patients. She spent 11 years at BioMarin Pharmaceutical, where she served as Executive Director of Research and helped lead the development of ROCTAVIAN®, the first gene therapy approved in the United States for adults with severe hemophilia A.

Sylvia is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Queen’s University and serves as an advisor and board member to organizations in biotechnology and education. She is Chair of the Board of the Sausalito Woman’s Club Scholarship Recognition Fund, which provides scholarships to students pursuing higher education and vocational training, and she mentors a college student through SHE-CAN, an organization that helps young women from post-conflict countries earn U.S. college degrees and become leaders in their communities.

Mentorship has been an important part of Sylvia’s life throughout her career. She is passionate about helping girls and young women recognize their potential, build confidence in their abilities, and see possibilities for themselves that they may not yet have imagined.

Sylvia lives in Sausalito, California, and enjoys traveling, Argentine tango, mixology, and painting.
