Bio
Watch Laura W. Murphy, Director of the Washington Legislative Office of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), discuss her role in helping both Congress and the Administration to pass legislation and implement policies that protect and promote human rights and civil liberties. During the course of her career she has served as chief of staff to a California Assembly Speaker, a cabinet member for the Mayor of the District of Columbia, an account executive for a public affairs firm, and a legislative assistant for two members of Congress. She has also testified numerous times before Congress and appeared as a spokesperson on a variety of civil liberties issues on several news and public affairs programs. We learn first hand about developing effective leadership skills and strategies to bring people together to support an idea or policy.
