Q&A: Biology Major – Alexa V (2:16)
“My major is biology, and the reason I chose it was because biology is the study of life. And as to why study it? Well, it’s everywhere. We are life.”
You should go to college because it opens a lot of doors for you. You get to network. You get to find out who you are as a person, and learn about your passions, mostly.
So far, the best part of being in college is getting to find out who I am. I have all this freedom to take me wherever I want to go. When you get to college, you should definitely reach out, and find people that are interested in the same things that you are interested in. There’s literally a club for everything. There’s a salsa club or a dance club, and if that’s what you’re interested, it’s a great way to make friends, and you should definitely reach out and ask. Most importantly, join.
A reason for you to go into STEM is because STEM is our future. It’s our leading industry, and it’s the driving force everywhere. In the future, there’s going to be so many more openings in STEM careers, such as the medical field and technology. And who knows, you could be the next person to make the biggest discovery.
You should never think of money as an issue or have it stop you from going to college because there are always other resources. You can have a hand, such as applying for scholarships. There’s work study, there’s FAFSA, and you can always get a job yourself.
First, to get to know your classmates well enough. Your peers are the closest thing you have to knowing about the way your class works.
Don’t be afraid of working hard because, in the end, nothing in life that is worthwhile comes easily to you. It doesn’t matter where you start, but rather where you end and how you ended.
