Become A Content Creator

Become A Content Creator (3:13)

“One of the great things about being a creator now are the platforms available to you. So you can create something. You can be a singer, a songwriter, an artist, and play a song that you wrote. That’s your intellectual property. It’s yours. You own it. You should be able to get paid from that. And so it now becomes a product. And it’s just the start of really a business opportunity for you.”

Quick Start

1) Content creators create all different types of products and posts. What types of content did the role models talk about? What type of content do you think would be the most interesting for you to create? Why?

2) A role model explained that when starting as a content creator “it’s going to be a long journey and there is a lot to learn along the way.” What types of skills do you think you need to be a content creator? What skills might you need to learn “along the way”?

3) There are many platforms available for content creators to share their ideas, products, posts, and more. What online platforms do you know of that content creators might use? What about platforms offline? Have you ever shared any content on any of these online or offline platforms? If so, what types of content have you shared and what response did you get?

4) One role model told us that she loves online content because you can upload it instantly. What is so great about being able to upload content instantly? What are some drawbacks or not-so-great parts about being able to upload content instantly?

5) Listeners learned that some of the best content creators simply share their authentic selves with the world. If you became a content creator, what would you want to share with the world? How could you ensure that you were always sharing your authentic self?

6) One role model told listeners that they should always “go for it! And don’t hold back.” This is great advice for people wanting to become a content creator. But it’s also great advice no matter what you want to do in your future career. How can going for something and not holding back help you achieve your goals? Can you think of a time in your life where you were nervous or unsure, but just decided to “go for it”? How did it turn out?

One of the great things about being a creator now are the platforms available to you. So you can create something. You can be a singer, a songwriter, an artist, and play a song that you wrote. That’s your intellectual property. It’s yours. You own it. You should be able to get paid from that. And so it now becomes a product. And it’s just the start of really a business opportunity for you.

Starting as a content creator, it’s very important to understand that it’s going to be a long journey and there’s a lot to learn on the way. So when you’re starting, go for it. Don’t hold back. Don’t fret if you don’t have the most advanced camera or if you don’t have a bunch of people to collaborate with, get started. Be yourself, put yourself in front and share what you have with the world, and it’ll flow from there.

Our industry needs makers. And if you can show some propensity to be witty or funny or poignant, let those skills come out. Play around with, how do I tell this story? How do I make what I’ve just seen come to life for somebody else?

So if you’re interested in attracting big name brands that you want to work with or even small up-and-coming brands, the very first thing is to be authentic and genuine to who you are.

Do think about who you want to be on social media. There are different social media platforms. They have different goals. And so depending on which platform you are, you might want to project a different persona. And that’s okay. So think about the ways that you want to present yourself. That way you can keep that in mind when you make new posts and when you essentially cultivate your brand.

What I love about online content is that you can upload instantly. And I think what’s great about that is you can express yourself. And there’s a platform for people to express themselves authentically without having so many rules and restrictions that maybe broadcast media demands.
