Biochemistry Major | El Camino College

Q&A: Biochemistry Major – Sabrina E (2:44)

“I am a biochemistry major and I was originally a biology major, but I also like chemistry. So, I opted for a major that was the best of both worlds. I want to be a physician, so I thought this was the best major to better prepare myself for medical school.”

Why College

College is going to open a lot of doors for you. It’s going to give you the career that’ll be most fulfilling in your life. It’ll teach you a lot of things that will make you a better person and an overall well rounded person.

What I Love About College

I think it’s overall the community that you build around you. You get a lot of different perspectives and you meet a lot of people and learn a lot of lessons in life that make you a mature person.

Choosing a College

Community college is probably a good route if you’re struggling financially. I remember in high school everyone was just stressing about university. It’s still the same thing, it’s not going to give you a lesser education.

Study Tips

I think that you should find a comfortable environment for you. Whatever you feel most at home whether it’s at the library or at your house. Just set up a whiteboard, get all your supplies ready, take breaks. Breaks are the best thing for you so you’re not overwhelmed by all the curriculum.

Freshman Survival Tips

Believe in yourself. I was a 2.5 GPA high school student, so I was convinced school was just not for me. Going into community college, I thought ‘I’ll just try a stem major’. I just worked hard and even though my parents only had a high school diploma, no higher education, I was very deterred from this major but I just stuck with it. Now, I have a 3.9 GPA and I’m helping other students.

Advice for Girls

You don’t get it the first time does it mean you’re never gonna get it. At the beginning of these courses I stumbled a few times, but I still stuck it through. That goes with anything in life, that’s how you succeed. You’re always going to fail at first, You just need a little bit of practice and self-confidence to pick yourself back up.
