Q&A: Biology Major – Ana S (2:55)

“My major is biology. The reason I chose biology is because I plan on getting into dentistry.”

Why College

You should go to college because you want to be a better person. You want to make this a better world, and the only way you will do this is if you put your foot in the door and make something happen.

What I Love About College

I think the best part of being in college and being a student is the diversity. It’s amazing. It’s wonderful having all the students being in the same program, and then also, having one another encourage one another. I think it’s amazing when we’re all going for the same goal, and we’re all trying to do the best that we can and we try to get together and try to accomplish our goals. I think that’s the best part.

Choosing a College

Start off at a community college. They offer a lot of programs, especially if you don’t know what you want to pursue. I think that’s the first step is entering a community college. There’s a lot of programs. There’s a lot of clubs that you can get involved in. Well, there are students that come from different backgrounds. You get to learn more from that, and so you’re able to structure where you want to be and what field you want to pursue.

Choosing a Major

It’s always what you think you like and what your preference is, that you can be able to choose what you want to do, and there’s so many programs that you can be able to get involved in, and see if that’s what you like, and then go from there.

Study Tips

Flashcards, they work well because if you’re working, for example, on campus, you’re able to just pull them out. If you’re having a very slow time and it’s not very busy, you’re able to put out your flashcards, and just study before an exam. Another thing is also finding a group of students in your class, forming a group, and finding some time outside of class to work together to be able to figure out the problems together. I think that two heads are better than one.

Freshman Survival Tips

Find friends that are on the same boat as you that want to accomplish the same things. That way, if one or the other is struggling, you guys are able to help one another. Definitely plan out your schedule. Always figure out the amount of homework you have handed out. Definitely, put in your your full eight hours of sleep. You will need it.

Advice for Girls

I encourage all girls to go to school. Definitely, pursue a career in STEM major if that’s your passion, if that’s what you really want to do. Don’t let anybody tell you what to do. Always encourage others, empower other women to do great, and to do better, to be better, and pursue your goals. Don’t let anybody stop you.

Last Words

Be brave and inspire.
